"We had John McCain and Mike Huckabee and Gov. Romney and Rudy Giuliani, but Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite. We packed the houses everywhere we went. And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up"
I was listening to Laura Ingraham today when she was talking to Fred Barnes. Ingraham had spent most of the time talking about the lack of leaders in the GOP, the lack of a face that can unite the party and take our message to America. I'm not saying Sarah Palin is there yet, but as Ingraham and Barnes pointed out, you keep going back to her over and over. Who fires up the base? Who packs the houses? Each time you get back to Sarah Palin. She needs polish, she needs time to study, and she needs to continue piling up accomplishments on accomplishments as governor of a very important state for country. My knee-jerk thought after the election was Palin needed to move to the Senate, but I've turned around on that. Palin needs to stay in Juneau and Anchorage, study hard, and swoop down to campaign for GOP candidates and pack the houses like she did all over the country for three months. She will run and sail to reelection.
The Chambliss election proves that more than any other GOP political heavyweight, Palin has the ability to fire us up and get out and work for our candidates. Right now, we need more of that than ever before. I for one am looking forward to Governor Palin coming back to Virginia for Bob McDonnell.
