Losing Has Consequences

Posted by Chris Guy in December 1st 2008

President-elect Obama has taken questions from the media on five seperate occasions since winning the presidential election and, as Media Bistro points out, he has yet to take a single question from anyone at Fox News. ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, Reuters, etc. have all spoken to Obama at various press conferences over the past four weeks.
There’s nothing [...]

The triumvirate of Gates, Clinton and Jones to lead Obama’s ‘national security team’ instills great confidence at home and abroad; and, further strengthens the growing respect for the president-elect’s courage and ability to exercise sound judgement in selecting the ‘best and the brightest’ to implement our nation’s security policies.
Sen. Warner refers to former Marine [...]

The two biggest Democrats in local politics, Sen. Edd Houck and Del. Albert Pollard, have endorsed former VA Secretary of Finance Jody Wagner for Lt. Governor. Who Watches Wal Mart?

Posted by Chris Guy in November 24th 2008

Contrary to what you may have heard, there is no difference between a comic book and a graphic novel. Because a lot of people associate comic books with kids, ‘graphic novel’ is a label that publishers give to certain titles so that they’ll reach a greater audience. In 1986, DC Comics released one such ‘graphic [...]

Chutzpah, Thy Name is Milde

Posted by Chris Guy in November 22nd 2008

A year ago the Stafford Co. Board of Supervisors turned from red-to-blue, with Bob Woodson and Harry Crisp joining George Schwartz and Independent Joe Brito to give the Dems a 4-3 majority. It was a great accomplishment for local Democrats, but most people agreed that, at the end of the day, Stafford Co. was still decidedly right-of-center.

Fast forward to a year later. Mark Warner, to the surprise of no one, easily carried Stafford. But Obama taking 46.5% in the county? The Stafford GOP is freaking out. Republicans will have to beat either Vice-Chairman Joe Brito or Chairman George Schwartz next year to take back control of the Board, but they don’t like their chances. Hmmmmm….what to do. Enter Aquia District’s Republican Supervisor Paul Milde.

Dan Smolen:

Led by Milde, The Citizen’s Chairman Coalition (they love dramatic names) has saturated voters’ and business owners’ mail boxes with bold claims that the current method of county representation - 7 majesterial districts each represented by a Supervisor with a Board Chairman chosen by, and among, those Supervisors - is an unfair, unrepresentative system for the people of Stafford.

Now, they want to have 6 majesterial districts and one at-large Board Chair - all elected by the voters.  Some on the other side have said this will be better - we (the voters) will get to vote for not 1 but 2 supervisors.

Funny. They didn’t mind it so much when they themselves trashed the old representation formula of 6 board supervisors and 1 at-large supervisor.

Remember when Congressman Darrell Issa funded the California recall in 2003? Well guess who planned on replacing Gray Davis before Schwarzenegger unexpectedly jumped into the race? Darrell Issa. If this change did occur in Stafford, I wonder who would run for the at-large Chairman position? Gee I don’t know…..Paul Milde maybe?

NOW What Do You Have to Say?

Posted by Chris Guy in November 21st 2008

A days ago, NOW (National Organization for Women) started expressing their displeasure that more women weren’t being mentioned as prospective cabinet members in the Obama administration. Keep in mind this was just days after he was elected President and when then was nothing more than pure speculation as to who his appointees would eventually be. (Earlier in [...]

William Seward Lives!

Posted by Chris Guy in November 18th 2008

With the talk of Hillary Clinton possibly becoming the next Secretary of State, you can’t help but think of Abraham Lincoln’s recently dubbed Team of Rivals. William H. Seward, a Senator from New York, was the frontrunner for his party’s presidential nomination in 1860. Instead, that honor went to a guy who’d only served in Congress for a few [...]

Palin Taught Them Nothing (Woo-Hoo!)

The good news for the Democrats just keeps on coming. And that is the fact that the Sarah Palin debacle hasn’t taught the GOP anything. Despite being a drag on the ticket and driving female voters to Obama/Biden in droves, she’s far and away the most popular figure among Republcans right now.
Newsflash: Voters care about issues. Women will [...]
